Walnut Savoury Biscuits

175g (6oz) plain flour
75g (3oz) margarine
75g (3oz) cheddar cheese
50g (2oz) Hamlyns Scottish Porridge Oats
50g (2oz) chopped walnuts
1 egg
½ tsp salt
½ tsp dry mustard
pinch of pepper
150ml (¼ pint) cold water

Preheat oven to 190ºC/ 375ºF/ Gas 5

Sieve together the dry ingredients, add the oats and rub in the margarine. Stir in the grated cheese and walnuts. Beat the egg and reserve a teaspoonful for the glaze. Add the egg to the mixture and bind it to a stiff dough with the water.

Roll out the mixture and trim it to make a rectangle. Add a pinch of salt to the remaining egg and brush this over the surface. Sprinkle the top with a few chopped nuts. Cut it into shapes and bake them for 12-15 minutes.
